Road salt 25 kg, our choice and your advantage

The 25 kg bag is deliberately the only packaging size we offer online, for three reasons. The price per kilo is considerably more favourable than with smaller packaging. The bag is practical enough for private individuals while also being the standard packaging for business use on pallets. And a straightforward logistics operation means we can deliver quickly, even during peak periods.

Road salt for private individuals

Do you have a driveway, front garden, pavement or small parking space where you want to be able to walk or drive safely in winter? In most cases, one bag of road salt is sufficient for the entire winter season. For an average driveway of around 50 m² you need 0.5 to 2 kilos of salt per gritting session. One bag of 25 kg is therefore more than enough for dozens of gritting sessions.

How to use road salt effectively

When to grit?

Preferably grit before precipitation or freezing begins. Pre-emptive gritting prevents snow or black ice from bonding to the road surface and saves you a great deal of work afterwards.

How much road salt per m²?

For preventive gritting, allow 10 to 15 grams per m². In the case of light snowfall or black ice, this rises to 20 to 30 grams per m². For ice layers or compacted snow, 30 to 40 grams per m² is needed, possibly spread over two gritting sessions.

How to grit evenly?

Use a spreading vehicle, hand spreader or gritting shovel for an even distribution. Too much road salt wastes the product. Too little produces no or insufficient effect.

Where is it better not to grit?

Do not grit on fresh concrete (less than one year old), as the salt can affect the surface. Also avoid direct proximity to plants and lawns and consider using sand there instead. Finally, take into account corrosion-sensitive metal components in the immediate vicinity. For sensitive areas, urea is a better choice — we also offer this in our webshop.

Road salt for business customers

Do you manage a site, building, fleet or public space where icy conditions pose risks or liability? Then timely and guaranteed delivery is essential.

Frequently Asked Questions About Road Salt

  • Road salt is salt (usually sodium chloride) used to combat slippery conditions caused by snow and ice. The salt lowers the freezing point of water, causing ice to melt or preventing it from forming on roads, driveways and pavements.

  • Regular road salt (sodium chloride) works effectively down to approximately –7°C. Below that temperature, its effectiveness decreases significantly. For extreme cold down to –30°C, calcium chloride road salt is a more suitable choice.

  •  The 25 kg bag offers the most favourable price per kilo and is the most practical packaging for both private individuals and business customers. By concentrating our range on this size, we can guarantee fast delivery and competitive pricing, from a single bag to a full load.

  • For preventive gritting, allow 10 to 15 grams per m². For active icy conditions, this rises to 20 to 40 grams per m². For a 50 m² driveway, that amounts to approximately 0.5 to 2 kilos per gritting session. One 25 kg bag is therefore sufficient for a full winter season.
